This is the final "co-written" book before Andrew Child takes over the series entirely。 It's an improvement on the last one but there's definitely something missing although it's hard to pinpoint what it is。 The staccato writing style is still there but somehow it's jarringly noticeable rather than just effortlessly carrying you along。 And Reacher feels a bit more like a robotic killer rather than a vigilante who only kills when he has to。What I did like: the plot was more complex and had more s This is the final "co-written" book before Andrew Child takes over the series entirely。 It's an improvement on the last one but there's definitely something missing although it's hard to pinpoint what it is。 The staccato writing style is still there but somehow it's jarringly noticeable rather than just effortlessly carrying you along。 And Reacher feels a bit more like a robotic killer rather than a vigilante who only kills when he has to。What I did like: the plot was more complex and had more strands to it than a traditional Reacher novel (possibly one strand too many but at least it was interesting)。 The female sidekick was a cool character and she and Reacher had a genuine partnership。 The teenage boy was a good character too。 I didn't guess the nature of the crime until it was revealed to me - there was some clever misdirection there。 。。。more

should I keep reading or trash it?Had too many plot lines and characters the first half of the book was a confusing mess。 I’m amazed I actually continued reading it

Honestly, the 2 stars (OK rating) is somewhat generous。 I got tired of the constant switching between POVs (many of them uninteresting, and in the case of the "villains", mostly pointless)。 The solution to the "mystery" was pretty stupid。 And the entire bit with the kid (Jed) is even more pointless, since we don't even get to see much about his meeting with his father, even though we spent pages and pages describing a Greyhound journey。 Honestly, the 2 stars (OK rating) is somewhat generous。 I got tired of the constant switching between POVs (many of them uninteresting, and in the case of the "villains", mostly pointless)。 The solution to the "mystery" was pretty stupid。 And the entire bit with the kid (Jed) is even more pointless, since we don't even get to see much about his meeting with his father, even though we spent pages and pages describing a Greyhound journey。 。。。more

Another mesmerizing readI enjoy the crisp and deliberate use of the English language in the Childs' story telling。The reader knows that the "good guys" will get the help they need to survive; the pleasure and angst is hinged upon HOW they will reach that survival。 Thank you for the well-spent hours of reading! Always enjoy a Reacher story。

Typical Reacher novel。 This time he is in Mississippi visiting a prison whose prisoners are used as organ donors whose organs are sold to highest bidders。

ReacherAs always, Reacher finds more trouble and takes care of business。 Still no one for a love interest。 But I'm thinking he will go back for someone he loves when he gets somewhere and realizes he does love her。 I hate having to wait for my next book! It was a great relief to read a page-turner after my struggles with the previous book。This is the 27th Reacher book and I've read them all。However this wasn't the best one IMHO - there was too much violence for my taste (though if one reads a Reacher book it is no surprise)And the plot relating to the "baddies" wasn't made all that clear。Hence just 3 stars from me。 It was a great relief to read a page-turner after my struggles with the previous book。This is the 27th Reacher book and I've read them all。However this wasn't the best one IMHO - there was too much violence for my taste (though if one reads a Reacher book it is no surprise)And the plot relating to the "baddies" wasn't made all that clear。Hence just 3 stars from me。 。。。more

Context for this review: I've read them all and I will continue to read them all until either Me or Jack dies。I liked this one。 I think I liked the last one too? There was certainly a lull a few years ago, a string of duds in row。 And I don't ever expect any of these to reclaim the original awesomeness of the first 10。 Deep Cut: the first one I ever read was The Enemy。 Not the first book he wrote, but I think its the first one chronologically? And it is BY FAR the best。 Any one trying to figure out which one to start with look no further。 If I were to compare this latest read to The Enemy, I'd have to drop it a couple stars。 But that's not where any of us are。 We know the deal。 I don't even know if Lee is writing these things anymore。 There were definitely some odd stylistic aspects of this book。 I assume that's Andrew。Aside: this is not the first book with Andrew Child on the cover。 I think it's the second? OK, fine。 NBD。 Lee's got a few million bucks in the bank。 He's old。 He's tired of busting his ass thinking up knew schemes for Reacher to foil and new bad guys for him to kick in the side of the knee or catch in the ear with scathing elbow strike。 Sure, take a break Lee, you deserved it。 Bring in an assistant。 An heir apparent。 Train him up。 Work him in slow。 After a few successful prints, hit the beach boss。 I got no problem with any of that。 I actually appreciate it。 If Jack really dies one day? If they really take him away from me?!?!? I don't know what I'll do。 I guess I'll hit the dark web for some fan-fic? But worry not! Lee knows we need him (Jack) and he's got his transition plan worked out。Here's my gripe: Why does Andrew have to pretend his last name is 'Child'??? Now I'm insulted。 You think I'm fucking stupid? Is he supposed to be your son or what?? What kind of fucking game is this。 HIS NAME IS ANDREW GRANT。 It says so on the fucking jacket。 So why treat me like a child, lee? (swidt?)I forgive you lee。 and back to the review, I had fun! I liked this book。 it showed up right in time for a business trip, and I was able to read it over the course of two days of travel。 PERFECT。 it was a page turner。 I couldn't quite guess the twists or turns。 It was also a little complex。。。 It held 3 different story lines in play until they converged。 I liked it。 I recommend it。 4 stars!OK, a couple gripes。 AND SPOILERSI guess reacher technically bangs a rando right off the bat to open this book up, but she wasn't relevant to the story。 Doesn't count。 He never got busy with anyone important。 Sort of a calling card ya know?Jumping towards the end - Reacher threatens the hotel kid to take his bribe and keep his name off the books。 "be smart kid, you don't want to know what option 2 is"。 That was an innocent kid!! Didn't seem right。 He should have just upped his bribe。 He shouldn't be threatening violence on innocent people who get in his way。 Lame。 Even weirder, that same poor kid ends up getting punched in the head and knocked out by a nasty bad guy。 Left on the floor unconscious。 Reacher kills that bad guy - cool。 BUT, then he takes the kids car keys and stuffs a note in his unconscious pocket saying don't worry I'll bring your car back。 WHAT THE FUCK? Poor kid is punched unconscious。 He doesn't want you stealing his fucking car。 You ever been punched unconscious。 I don't think you just bounce back。 Could have brain damage, head aches, migraines what ever for the rest of your life。 Again - innocent kid。 Punched out BECEAUSE of reacher。 Man I'm sure he was thinking FUCK this guy。 Ima fucking kill this guy。 Then when reacher brings him back his (Stolen) car, the kid is like OH YAY! no way dude。 He'd be waiting with a gun to fucking shoot him。 didn't make sense。 Bad writing。 our of character for ol' pheasant fists。General gripe: Reacher finally catches up to the 2 or 3 ultimate bad guys at the end。。。 and they don't defend themselves? they don't have guns or knives? I don't think they even reacted。。。? They just like gave up or something? didn't make sense。 Weren't the bad guys ALSO cops? like also old prison officers? Shouldn't they have been pretty bad ass? I feel like there was a whole chapter missing there。 They implied that reacher had to torcher the last guy with a kitchen knife to get info out of him, but I Dunno? they didn't actually say anything about it。 It felt a little anti climactic。One more general one: and I definitely blame andrew GRANT for this one。 There was 3 or 4 words in this book I didn't know。 and NO, I didn't stop to look them up。 This aint fucking English 401。 This is Jack No Middle Reacher kicking ass。 I don't need you flexing your british vocabulary andrew。 save it for your unpublished short story collection。Can't wait for the next one。 。。。more

Too many directions, none of them seemed to develop。 I miss the good ones。 I may have to let this series go。

The essence of a Jack Reacher book is that he travels somewhere, runs into some people who need killing, and kills them。 Recent books in this series are trying to turn Reacher into a detective, and failing miserably。 Not to mention that Andrew Child can't write his way out of a paper bag。 Sayonara, Reacher series。 The essence of a Jack Reacher book is that he travels somewhere, runs into some people who need killing, and kills them。 Recent books in this series are trying to turn Reacher into a detective, and failing miserably。 Not to mention that Andrew Child can't write his way out of a paper bag。 Sayonara, Reacher series。 。。。more

Where is Jack Reacher?I wanted to give five stars just because it's Jack Reacher, but honestly, the integrity of the character is called into question in this yarn。 This was not the Jack Reacher Lee Child created。 This is a man who has no depth, no scruples, no baseline。 At one point he says he does not kill in cold blood, but had done so at least twice in the previous ten pages。The plot was convoluted and bordered on fantasyland。 Previous Reacher novels all have one thing in common - they are b Where is Jack Reacher?I wanted to give five stars just because it's Jack Reacher, but honestly, the integrity of the character is called into question in this yarn。 This was not the Jack Reacher Lee Child created。 This is a man who has no depth, no scruples, no baseline。 At one point he says he does not kill in cold blood, but had done so at least twice in the previous ten pages。The plot was convoluted and bordered on fantasyland。 Previous Reacher novels all have one thing in common - they are believable。 Sadly this was not。 There was a hint of 'silliness' about it, as if a set of highly improbable situations had been created with the express notion of putting them all into the same book。 Really silly。 It stretched credibility to its limits。 I am sad to say that this book is shallow。 The last one wasn't much better。 Something is going wrong with the Jack Reacher phenomenon and someone needs to either grab a hold of it and rein it back into shape, or let it go completely to avoid an embarrassing and drawn out ending。 。。。more

This isn't the Reacher I know。 That one had humanity。 Character。 The one in this book is vicious and violent and lacking in personality。 There are too many characters to keep track of, and I didn't care about any of them! Great book! Jack Reacher is back to his usual tricks, and in this book, he travels from Colorado to Mississippi to solve a mystery at a prison。 You need to have a list for all of the people just to keep them straight because there are a lot of characters in this story, mostly bad guys。

I usually love Reacher books, but I found this one went in four different directions for the first half of the story。 Once the threads merged, it was more enjoyable。 I felt the resolution threw in a few unnecessary twists before ending abruptly。 Not my favorite Reacher book by a long shot。

This is a blistering return to form。 Which is credit to Andrew ‘Child’ Grant。 Lee Child (Jim Grant) said he was running out of ideas before enlisting his brother’s help and I agreed。 But this partnership has now properly found its feet。 The first two collaborations were good but this is clever, it keeps you guessing about the plot details until the end。 It’s a masterclass in misdirection and a thrilling detective story with an inventive criminal enterprise。 If you had misgivings about Lee Child This is a blistering return to form。 Which is credit to Andrew ‘Child’ Grant。 Lee Child (Jim Grant) said he was running out of ideas before enlisting his brother’s help and I agreed。 But this partnership has now properly found its feet。 The first two collaborations were good but this is clever, it keeps you guessing about the plot details until the end。 It’s a masterclass in misdirection and a thrilling detective story with an inventive criminal enterprise。 If you had misgivings about Lee Child taking on a co-author then this book should dispel them。 。。。more

Thank you to Delacorte Press and Netgalley for this book and am voluntarily leaving a review。 It comes as no surprise that this book was action packed from the very beginning。 Reacher is the type of man you want to root for! Awful (The Child’s failure)This was the worst Lee Child book that I’ve read and I’ve read all of them, definitely not up to the standard of his previous books。。

Reacher novels are usually a guilty pleasure for me。 It's all ultra American individualist wet dream bullshit but occassionally you just need some of that male masculine manly man man look cool and kick ass escapism。。 did I mention I was a man?!!That being said, they are taking a fair dive nowadays as Andrew Child takes over the writing and this outing was barely a meh。 Reacher novels are usually a guilty pleasure for me。 It's all ultra American individualist wet dream bullshit but occassionally you just need some of that male masculine manly man man look cool and kick ass escapism。。 did I mention I was a man?!!That being said, they are taking a fair dive nowadays as Andrew Child takes over the writing and this outing was barely a meh。 。。。more

No Plan B is a book for male readers。 Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 250 pounds, the hero is an irresistible force; attractive ladies flock to him, and the villains are terrified of him。 In a sense, the plot is predetermined and follows a well-known narrative that works for roughly three-fourths of the book; then, the story practically runs out of steam。 There were times when Reacher seemed out of character by using brutal force to murder the bad guys。 The plot, overall, felt strange, No Plan B is a book for male readers。 Standing at 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 250 pounds, the hero is an irresistible force; attractive ladies flock to him, and the villains are terrified of him。 In a sense, the plot is predetermined and follows a well-known narrative that works for roughly three-fourths of the book; then, the story practically runs out of steam。 There were times when Reacher seemed out of character by using brutal force to murder the bad guys。 The plot, overall, felt strange, which may have had something to do with the fact that Lee Child collaborated with his younger brother to write this novel or because I am new to the series。 Do not misunderstand; the book is entertaining。 I got hooked by the third chapter, lost interest in the latter half, and wanted the book to end。 There were too many dull side characters and subplots, and no number of gruesome action sequences could compensate for the numerous story gaps。 ╌★★★✰✰ 。。。more

It's pure Reacher。 A bit more complex plot than the last 5-1o books。 An improvement imo。 I have read all the Reacher books as an instrument of escape from my normal genres。 This was gifted to me。 Would I have bought it? Amazon $15 for kindle ebook /$28 paperback/ $20 hardcover? No way。 Just me though。 Others keep on buying。 He continues to make the NYT best seller the week they release。 Plus, several movies。。。 I would keep churning them out, too。 It's pure Reacher。 A bit more complex plot than the last 5-1o books。 An improvement imo。 I have read all the Reacher books as an instrument of escape from my normal genres。 This was gifted to me。 Would I have bought it?
